Rajamahendravaram: The Government Headquarters Hospital in the city will be upgraded as super-specialty hospital with 500 beds as a teaching hospital (medical college). On the directions of District Collector, necessary proposals were sent to Medical and Health department principal secretary.

With the government planning to carve new districts in the state making Parliamentary constituencies as headquarters in January 2020, Rajamahendravaram needs a super-specialty hospital in district headquarters.

The super-specialty hospital proposed with specialties such as cardiology, neurology, nephrology, urology etc. Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr T Ramesh Kishore said that at present the hospital was running with 250 beds strength but accommodating as many as 450 patients, is highly inevitable.

After creation of new district, upgradation of hospital will be made to cater to the needs of district. Necessary space available for new buildings as the hospital is having as many as 21 acres of land, he stated.

He added advanced MRI scanning machine was installed in the hospital and scanning will be done freely shortly. "This was installed under the PPP mode and NRI Academy of Guntur takes care of MRI and the cost of the machine is Rs 5 crore," he stated.

A sophisticated laboratory will also come up with an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakh and a new mortuary building was also constructed. Moreover, Mid-Level Health Provider (MLHP) is also coming up in the hospital with IGNO funding to impart a six-month training to provide medical facility for B Sc students.

A new building for Maternity Child Health Care (MCHC) is also coming up to accommodate additional beds of 50 in addition to the existing 50 beds. MP Margani Bharat Ram and Rajanagaram MLA Jakkmpudi Raja are also assured to extend their help to get medical college with super-specialty hospital, he told.
