Repeated surveys irk housing beneficiaries in Srikakulam

The beneficiaries of housing schemes are expressing their resentment over the repeated surveys on allotment of houses for poor.
Srikakulam: The beneficiaries of housing schemes are expressing their resentment over the repeated surveys on allotment of houses for poor. Currently, the government is conducting a survey in all villages and towns through its volunteers for list of eligible housing beneficiaries. After verification, the names of same
beneficiaries are appearing in the lists, which were mentioned in the previous lists. Beneficiaries are also giving their names repeatedly whenever surveys are being conducted. Lists of beneficiaries prepared previously for NTR urban, NTR rural and PM Awas Yojana schemes.
For Srikakulam urban beneficiaries, in total 1,280 houses were constructed at Patrunivalasa by the previous TDP government and handed over to beneficiaries. However, the YSRCP government cancelled the list due to irregularities in allotment of houses.
528 houses were sanctioned for beneficiaries in Amudalavalasa town, followed by 1,104 houses in Rajam urban, 1,995 houses in Palasa town and 828 houses in Itchapuram urban were sanctioned under urban housing scheme. But the houses were not allotted to eligible families due to irregularities and as a result, the lists were cancelled.
In Srikakulam city, the houses for Hudhud cyclone victims were constructed at Compost Colony and allotted to ineligible persons, subsequently complaints poured in to
the then district collector, and after inquiry, the lists were cancelled. Once again, the government is preparing lists to select beneficiaries for these houses.
Officials also are unable to check whether the beneficiary allotted house under any scheme or not. Another problem is migration of beneficiaries from here to other places after sanctioning of houses.
"We are conducting survey through volunteers under various housing schemes for payment of amount to those who are having sites and started construction of houses previously and also verifying lists also," said Project Director for Housing T Venu Gopal to The Hans India.
