Tirupati/Amaravati: BJP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday said that he was filing a defamation suit against a Telugu daily on behalf of TTD executive officer Dr K S Jawahar Reddy for publishing a "false report" denting the image of TTD

Swamy, who was here in connection with the filing of case against the daily, said that first he, a year back sought the newspaper to deny the false report it published alleging that the TTD portal praised other religious god but there had been no response. "The daily ignored even after issuing of a notice, warning a legal action against the false report, forcing me to go ahead with the filing of a suit for damaging the image of the TTD,'' he said adding that as a Hindu bhakat and an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara, I readily agreed to file the suit claiming damages for Rs 100 crore from the daily."

BJP leader further said that the vernacular daily should have checked the genuineness of the information on the TTD website before publishing the report instead of relying on it, he said answering a reporter who pointed that his own party BJP leaders also protested against the TTD for the mentioning of other religious god on its website.

The case includes the demotion suit and also criminal case under various sections against the newspaper for trying to create rift among various religious groups, he said observing that he has not lost any defamation case, so far he has filed.

Later, the BJP MP met Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy at his camp office. Speaking to media after the meeting, Subramanya Swamy accused former chief minister and TDP chief of being behind the misinformation campaign against TTD. He said RSS need not endorse his meeting with Jagan as Chief Minister is a democratically elected person and anyone can meet him, adding that YS Rajasekhara Reddy was his best friend.

On Visakha steel plant, Subrahmanya Swamy said there was no need for privatisation and he would accompany Jagan Mohan Reddy if he meets the Prime Minister on the issue.

He said TTD accounts should be audited by CAG not the government of Andhra Pradesh and alleged that Chandrababu Naidu had not submitted any accounts during his regime. The MP said Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had taken a positive decision by agreeing to CAG audit.

Chief Minister felicitated him with a shawl and presented memento during the meet.
