Tirupati: CPI state secretariat member P Haranadha Reddy on Sunday welcomed the State Election Commission (SEC) decision to postpone the local body election in view of Coronavirus .
Speaking to media here on Sunday, Haranadha Reddy took objection to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy remarks against SEC. The CPI leader urged the SEC to hold elections to the seats which were declared unanimous on the ground that opposition candidates were prevented from filing nominations at several places. The ruling party leaders and activists unleashed a reign of terror and indulged in violence on the candidates of other parties preventing them from filing nominations, he said.
Lambasting YSRCP, Reddy said that the people witnessed many elections since independence but have never seen this type of local body election. CPI leader demanded registering a case under Disha act against those involved in the attack on a woman candidate in Punganur, where a group of alleged YSRCP activists attacked her when she came to file nomination. CM was responsible for the large scale violence against opposition party candidates. Officials also indulged in irregularities and declared many nominations as invalid, the CPI leader complained.
CPI district leaders T Janaradhar, C Penchalaiah and others were present.
