Tirupati: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) has decided to conduct Covid-19 tests to all the senior citizens (above 60-years-of age) living at various localities in the city. It may be noted that Covid-19 cases tally touched 150 mark in the city.

Due to the alarming situation, Municipal Commissioner PS Girisha appealed to city residents to continue self-restrictions to curb spread of coronavirus. Tests will be conducted to senior citizens free of cost, he said. According to Municipal statistics, around 60,000 senior citizens are living in temple city.

MCT has set up testing centres at its urban primary health centres located at Auto Nagar, Krishnapuram Tana, Yerramitta, Nehru Nagar, Prakasam Road, Sivajyothi Nagar, Scavengers Colony, Bairagipatteda and P&T colony.

MCT officials are planning to protect senior citizens from the deadly disease by testing more and more samples to isolate the corona positive patients in the city. Civic body health department personnel have started door to door survey to collect details of senior citizens.

PS Girisha said that any senior citizen can approach urban PHC and can give his samples for tests. " We are ready to conduct covid-19 test to above 60 seniors at free of cost. Only thing is they have to come forward to give samples for covid-19 test, " he added.
