Eluru: The district police along with students, cadets of NCC and general public took out a huge unity rally here on Thursday, to mark 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India.

Freedom-fighter and first home minister Vallabhbhai Patel had played a crucial role in merging more than 500 princely states in Indian Union. The rally started from police parade grounds and passed through Ameenapet, Government Hospital, Court Centre and Fire Station before returning to police parade grounds.

Superintendent of Police Navdeep Singh Grewal paid floral tributes to Patel on the occasion. He administered an oath to the policemen stating that they will be committed to safeguard the integrity of the nation.
