IIIT-S – Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City is all set to celebrate its first convocation on April 23 and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu who will be attending it as chief guest.

Tirupati: IIIT-S – Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City is all set to celebrate its first convocation on April 23 and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu who will be attending it as chief guest. It was established in 2013 by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India and Government of Andhra Pradesh and Sri City as its Industry partner.

A state of the art campus is being developed for the institute at Sri City. First phase of infrastructure consisting of Academic Block and two hostels with dining hall were completed in July 2018 and operating in the new campus from 2018-19.

In the second phase, two more hostel blocks and a dining hall and other development works were being undertaken. The student intake of the institute is 270 in 2018 and it has now a total strength of 750 students with 40 per cent of them represent other states.

Speaking to The Hans India, the Director of IIIT-S Dr G Kannabiran said that the Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu will deliver the convocation address and the Chairman of Sri City and Member of Board of Governors of IIIT-S Srinivasa Raju will preside over the ceremony. Other members including the Managing Director of Sri City Ravindra Sannareddy will participate in which 135 students will receive degrees that includes 105 under graduates, 29 Honours degrees and one MS degree.

He said that the Institute offers UG programmes in two disciplines – Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) besides offering MS and PhD programmes in both disciplines. From this year they have proposed to introduce part time PhD and Executive programme for those in IT industry.

Admissions are also opened for students from abroad through 'DASA' and ' Study in India' programmes of government of India. Admissions are through JEE Main examination followed by Government norms.

The Director added that Design Innovation Centre at IIIT- S, under the mentorship of IIT Hyderabad has been working towards promoting culture of innovation and creative problem solving, undertaking systematic design through projects etc., Admission process has started for the next academic year.

In the coming years, they have proposed to take up major initiatives which include specialisations in areas such as Cyber Security, Smart Manufacturing.
