V-P Venkaiah Naidu advocates special judicial tribunals to probe politicos
Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu advocated setting up of “special judicial tribunals” to conduct trials on the criminal cases in which political leaders are involved.
Vijayawada: Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu advocated setting up of "special judicial tribunals" to conduct trials on the criminal cases in which political leaders are involved.
Addressing the "Meet and Greet" programme, here on Tuesday, the Vice-President said that the criminal cases, in which political leaders are involved, are increasing. The political leaders are even getting involved in rape and murder cases, which is spoiling the reputation of leaders.
"In order to conduct the speedy trial, special judicial tribunals should be constituted. The trials should be completed in one year," he suggested. The Vice-president also advocated setting up of Court of Appeal and Supreme Court Benches in various parts of the country for speedy disposal of cases.
Venkaiah Naidu said that he was worried when the bill, abrogating Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) was introduced in the Rajya Sabha as the BJP did not have required strength. He said that he referred old books on how to proceed on the issue in the Rajya Sabha. However, the bill was passed by the House by two-thirds majority.
"J&K State does not mean of Srinagar, but it consists of Ladakh, Jammu and Srinagar," he said, adding "Abrogation of Article 370 in J&K is not a political issue, but it is a national issue. If the leaders in the country speak against the abrogation, Pakistan will use it to their favour," he cautioned, adding that the abrogation of Article 370 should have been taken place long ago.
Referring to defections of elected representatives, he underlined the need of setting up of "Tribunals" specially to resolve the defection related cases. He said that the judiciary should set up a "special system" for the speedy disposal of election-related cases in six months. He also underlined the need for time-bound disposal of cases.
The Vice-President emphasised the need for amending the 10th Scheduled of the Constitution to plug loopholes. He underlined the need for the presiding officers to take action on defection cases in a stipulated time of three months.
Referring to four of TDP Rajya Sabha (RS) members quitting the party and joining the BJP, a couple of months ago, he said that the MPs in their petition stated that since they were two by third in the RS, they were merging into the BJP. The Election Commission should decide whether it is a merger or defection, he said.
