Vijayawada: District Collector Mohammad Imtiaz has said the state government was implementing many welfare schemes for the development and welfare of women in the State.
He inaugurated the sports festival for women at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here on Wednesday. The sports are being organised to mark the International Women's Day.
In all, 357 women working in various government departments participated in the events of Kabaddi, Kho Kho, chess, caroms, running etc. He said women face lot of stress as they have to work at their office and also at home looking after their families.
As such, if they participate in games, thjey would get some relief from stress, besides keeping mentally and physically fit.
Joint Collector Madhavi Latha said women are very powerful in society and they can achieve anything, if they march ahead with self-confidence.
ICDS Project director K Umarani, DEO K Rajyalakshmi, District Minority Welfare Officer R Sultana and others were present on the occasion.
