Visakhapatnam: In what seems to be a novel distribution drive, goats get added to the essential commodities list.

In ward No. 52, NAD Kotha Road, Alfa Foundation, a service-oriented organisation, gave away goats worth Rs 4 lakh to the locals in the area and its adjoining places.

With an objective to boost immunity system in times of novel coronavirus pandemic, founder of the foundation B S Krishna decided to distribute goats to the local youths who could not afford to buy meat.

Ever since the first lockdown implemented from March 25, members from voluntary organisations, political leaders and NGO representatives have been reaching out to the needy and locals in various neighbourhoods by providing them food parcels, essential commodities, vegetables, masks and sanitisers.

Going a step further, the foundation gave away a goat to a group of families. "We gave a herd of goats worth Rs 4 lakh to various families at NAD Kotha Road and nearby localities. Earlier, we provided eggs and it was followed by the distribution of poultry birds. Now, we have taken up distribution of goats to the poor to help them boost their immunity levels," said Krishna, who is known as Alfa Krishna.
