Visakhapatnam: Given the rising number of coronavirus positive cases, one need not wonder even if many areas become clusters in the coming days.

Already, the cluster count has reached 83 in Visakhapatnam district, including 36 very active, 19 active, 19 dormant and nine denotified clusters.

As on Sunday, the tally in the district touched 283. Of them, 136 were discharged, including a four-month-old baby from the VIMS.

A majority of rural areas appeared safe until unlock 1.0.

The district recorded 179 Covid-19 positive cases as on June 7. A week later, 104 fresh cases were added to the count, taking the tally to 283 in the district.

In Anakapalle alone, 39 cases were recorded so far. This apart, cases were also registered in Payakaraopeta, Satyanarayanapuram, Rayudupeta, Nakkapalle, Sabbavaram, Konempalem and Rebaka, among others emerged as very active clusters in rural area.

When it comes to urban region, more number of Covid positive cases is reported from Dandu Bazaar.

After the partial lifting of the lockdown since June 1, very active and active clusters are on the rise. Malkapuram, Ashok Nagar, Sujatha Nagar, Sivajipalem, Dayal Nagar, Aganampudi, Gavara Jagayyapalem, Sai Nagar (Duvvada), Indira Colony (Sriharipuram), Sairam Colony (Madhurawada) come within the ambit of very active clusters.

However, Gnanapuram, P M Palem, Relli Veedhi and Duggapuvanipalem, among other areas fall under active clusters.

Apparently, clusters are increasing in several parts of the district, including core areas in the city. Given the rise in the cluster count, the lockdown relaxation would be of little help even amid unlock 1.0 as there will be intensified restrictions in very active and active clusters.

Health officials lay emphasis on following safety protocols failing which will only lead to increased number of clusters which would further intensify the restrictions.
