The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Additional Commissioner K Shakuntala on Friday took up a novel programme to create awareness on the ban on single use plastic carry bags.

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Additional Commissioner K Shakuntala on Friday took up a novel programme to create awareness on the ban on single use plastic carry bags. The Kalajatha team would enact plays to educate people to ban use of carry bags voluntarily.

She said that the team would enact plays and skits for 15 days. The programme already started at Durga Ghat and Arundalpet. She said that the Kalajatha team would explain about the ill-effects of single use plastic bags which pollute the environment and the health of the people.

She said that this would create awareness among people to stop usage of plastic bags and other plastic related things. She said that the Kalajatha team would cover two divisions in the morning and two in the evening.

On Friday, it covered division 25, 26 in the morning and 27 and 28 division in the evening. Health officer in-charge Iqbal Hussain, sanitary supervisor Koteshwara Rao and others were present.
