Weather update: Heavy rains likely in north Coastal Andhra as low pressure spreads over Bay of Bengal

The low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal has extended to the East-central Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas and a surface trough is also formed in addition to the low pressure, which is likely to reach the coasts of South Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh within 24 hours.

The low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal has extended to the East-central Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas and a surface trough is also formed in addition to the low pressure, which is likely to reach the coasts of South Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh within 24 hours. Against this backdrop, the Meteorological Office said heavy rains are likely in north Coastal Andhra and East Godavari districts in the next 48 hours along with winds up to 40-50 kph.

The surface periodicity is said to be 5.8 km above average sea level and the east-west basin extended between 4.5 and 5.8 km above the sea level. The Meteorological department said that it is the Lakshadweep region where the surface periodicity is related to other low-pressure areas formed in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal between the southeastern Arabian Sea.

There are indications of light to moderate rains in Telangana, officials said. The Met Department has forecasted light to moderate rains in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and East Godavari districts and the southern coastal areas and Rayalaseema as well.
