Nellore: Senior TDP leader and politburo member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said the State government had declared only 10.6 pc reservation to the BCs against the required 24 per cent in the district based on the population.

He addressed the party's coordination committee meeting in the city on Sunday and said the YSR Congress government betrayed the Backward Classes by decreasing the reservations in the local body elections.

The former Minister said that the State government failed to allocate MPTC seats in 16 mandals in the district. Even though the MPP of Buchireddy Palem has been reserved for the BCs, but no MPTC seat was allocated in the region, said Somireddy.

In all, 166 MPTC seats have been allocated to the BCs during 2014 elections and now they were reduced to only 60, he added.

He also said that they were having doubts over the procedure followed by the State Election Commission in declaring the schedule and notification for the local body polls in the State.

The TDP leader alleged that the local body polls were going to be held under the direct supervision of the YSR Congress chief. Chandramohan Reddy also said that people would teach a strong lesson to the YSR Congress Party in the ensuing local body polls.

He hoped that the TDP would win maximum number of seats in the local body polls across the State. In-charges of segments and party cadre were moving ahead for the polls with great confidence.

TDP district president Beeda Ravi Chandra, leaders B Raghavendra Reddy, P Srinivasulu Reddy, P Krishnaiah, P C Babu Yadav and others were present.
