Guntur: YSRCP candidate for Guntur Parliament constituency Modugula Venugopala Reddy, asserting that he will mount pressure on the Centre for Special Category Status for the development of the State, recalled that when he was the MP, he opposed bifurcation of the state in Parliament and protested against it. "I will try to get SCS for the development of the state." he said.

It may be recalled that he was Narasaraopet MP during 2009 to 2014 and was MLA from Guntur East from 2014 to 2019. In an interview with The Hans India, he stated that he will take steps to develop the state capital Amaravati. He added that he will set up municipal corporation in the capital area and develop the core capital area.

At present the CRDA is developing the state capital Amaravati, he said and felt that there is need to construct a central railway station at Amaravati, airstrip for landing mini-aircraft and Central Bus Station.

He recalled that Karnataka state government had provided land free of cost for building the new railway line and similarly he will mount pressure on the state government to provide land free of cost for the railway line to Amaravati, if he is elected to Parliament.

He said that he will secure Rs.1000 crore fund from the Centre and construct the flyover bridges, Road Under Bridges in Guntur city and for the smooth flow of traffic. He assured the people that he will develop Guntur city as model city. He also said that he would try to set up agro-based industries in the constituency to get value addition to chilli, tobacco and cotton farmers besides developing the Spices Park in the constituency and take steps to complete the Underground Drainage Scheme and implement the 24X7 drinking water scheme.

Referring to sitting MP Galla Jayadev, he criticised that the MP is non-local and will not be available to people. Deploring that those who cannot read and write Telugu have become MPs, he regretted. He said that the sitting MP rarely visits Guntur city and neglected the problems of the people. He expressed confidence that he will win in the elections.
