Bengaluru: At a time when doctors have become target of attacks from relatives of patients if anything goes wrong, in a heartwarming gesture a man has returned to the hospital three months after recovering from a heart problem to felicitate the doctor who gave a new lease of life. Madusudhan Kulkarni, 62, a resident of Bengaluru, had a heart problem. His family members claimed that he was advised by many hospitals to return home due to Covid-19 fear.

He finally managed to get admission in Prakriya Hospital from where he was discharged recently after fully recovering from the ailment.

"I have got a new lease of life and I want to heartily thank the doctor" Madusudhan Kulkarn said. He felicitated cardiologist Dr. Mukul R.Fulmali.

"Three months ago, I was turned out by many hospitals but finally came to Prakriya Hospital with complaints of shortness of breath and could not lie down straight on bed or sleep due to discomfort. Despite visiting numerous hospitals, my condition only worsened. Now I am happy that my normal life is back. Some hospitals refused to admit me saying they did not have beds, while others wanted to know whether we had insurance, but nothing worked," Madusudhan Kulkarn added.

Due to the Covid outbreak, Bengaluru witnessed a shortage of beds for both coronavirus and non-coronavirus patients who were facing a tough time trying to get beds in private and government hospitals. The civic body later has asked hospitals to update bed occupancy of non-COVID-19 patients and details of all the government-referred patients and private patients. Dr Mukul R Fulmali said, "it was a challenging case as his heart function was dismal with the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) at just 25 pc and hence he required immediate care and was treated with a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Devices (CRT-D) at subsidised rate and he was discharged in three days' time. The patient who could not even lie down flat is now on his own feet. His heart pumping function has improved by 10 pc."
