Hyderabad: The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is a flagship initiative set up by the NITI Aayog to promote innovation and entrepreneurship across the length and breadth of the country, based on a detailed study and deliberations on innovation and entrepreneurial needs of India in the years ahead. Innovation is a tool that the future generation must be equipped with.

Three students Vaishnavi Ravi, Varivashya Poladi, Vishwatara and the mentor J Lavanya(Computer Science teacher) from Delhi Public School, Nacharam created a project called SmartEN that has been selected in the top 100 innovations of Atal Innovation Mission. Today, the over consumption and misuse of energy is becoming an increasingly significant issue being raised on a global platform.

The majority of the world's population does not seem to realise the tremendous amounts of energy it expends. Those who contribute to problems such as energy theft by not paying bills, do not seem to perceive the impact this has both economically and ecologically, on every single person. According to a research, energy bills have gone up by 20 per cent in the past three years, leading to a greater risk of energy security for the future generations.

These crucial issues stand in the way of vast economic developmental progress. The students targeted these energy crises in particular and came up with a solution called SmartEN-a Pre-paid Smart Energy Meter.

Through the device, the users would be able to keep a close check on the amount of energy and money expended and thus be able to reduce the excessive usage of energy. Ease of use makes the solution even more interesting. Each user is assigned a unique User ID and password through which they can recharge their energy supply, using the website/mobile app provided. In this way every user would be able to manage their power consumption beforehand and get what they pay for. This also eliminates the possibility of power theft as the whole system is pre-paid. Moreover, it also eliminates the process of manual bill reading and payment.

Another interesting feature of the product is automation. The product allows the user to control the power supply from anywhere and anytime, as per user's requirement through the website or mobile app.
