Periyapatna police have arrested another accused, Prasanna Kumar, in the rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl, whose body was found burning on the road near Kelloor village in Periyapatna taluk in Mysuru district on November 8.

Prasanna Kumar, a native of Chamalapurahundi of Nanjangud taluk, allegedly helped the main accused Siddaraju in the murder.
According to police, Bhagya (18), a native of Hullalli of Nanjangud taluk and Siddaraju, who hails from Karalapura in the same taluk, were said to be in love. But Siddaraju reportedly refused to marry her. On November 7, Siddaraju along with his friend Prasanna Kumar reportedly took Bhagya in a car and Siddaraju allegedly raped her before murdering her and setting the body on fire. Hullalli police who received a complaint from Bhagya's father Mahadevshetty on November 9 stating that the girl was missing, cracked the case based on the mobile tower location of Bhagya's phone number. The body was identified as that of Bhagya with the help of her clothes and anklets.
