BJP has more tricks up its sleeve

Ramu Sarma's article boldly points out the dictatorial tendencies of contemporary rule which bode ill for the democracy and for the nation.

The BJP appears bent upon demolishing the opposition by swallowing the regional parties. In a swift move it had gobbled four RS members belonging to TDP when its leader was having an untimely holiday abroad. Prior to the elections the BJP had popularised the idea of TINA (There Is No Alternative).

It had relentlessly campaigned the fact that there is no PM candidate for the opposition and as such Modi is the best bet. Following its massive electoral victory it is flaunting TIMO( There Is Modi Only) concept.

The need of the hour is to protect the democracy and preserve its true spirit. The ruling party shouldn't get carried away by its brute majority and subvert the values and systems. Under the present regime we seem to be dangerously moving towards a one-party system.

The grand old party which seemed to have offered some resistance prior to the polls is in doldrums as its leader had abdicated his responsibility quite gracelessly.

The regional parties like TRS, TDP and YSRCP nourished the hopes of playing key role at the Centre. However, the sweep of BJP had dashed their hopes into pieces and the very survival of regional parties had become a question now.

The surgical strike at TDP appears to be only the beginning and BJP has many tricks up its sleeves to decimate the regional parties.

Such is the fear that despite absolute majority in the house YSRCP leadership is literally kneeling before Modi. Opposition parties are vital for a vibrant democracy. Bereft of opposition, democracy becomes dictatorship.
