Lack of sufficient funds to implement Rythu Bandhu scheme, the flagship scheme of the TRS govt in its previous stint in office, depicts the sorry state of affair of the State's financial health.

Barring criticism on political lines, the scheme has been a phenomenal one both in its intention and in the timing of its implementation inspiring several other parties across the country and forcing them to include it as a key poll promise.

The scheme has benefitted many small and marginal scale farmers providing an investment input of Rs 5,000 per acre twice a year and prevented many of them falling prey to local moneylenders. The State government shall rise to the occasion and assure that the aspirations of 59 lakh farmers be fulfilled accordingly.

The proposal of keeping 10 acres ceiling for Rythu Bandhu beneficiaries is a welcome move and has the potential of helping the genuine beneficiaries like the small and marginal land holders.

Further, while many governments have been overambitious in announcing popular schemes during the elections, they have been falling behind in their implementation as in Telangana. Frequent violations of FRBM may turn unsustainable to the governments in the long run.
