Universities, the seats of higher education, are expected to use the correct vocabulary in all spheres. Should we visit the dispensary in a constituent college of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, we feel sorry for the laymen terminology. Staff pattern of the dispensary goes on as Doctor, Staff Nurse, Lab Technician, Compounder, and so on. Since Universities award degrees of Doctor, they know that Doctor is not an occupational title.
Its designation shall be Medical Officer. Coming to Compounder, it was an outdated cadre and was replaced all over the country with Pharmacist as per the Pharmacy Act 1948. JNTUH in its academics has been offering Pharmacy courses at levels of Bachelor, Post Graduate Diploma, Master and Doctor. Hence, I request the authorities to rewrite the designations of dispensary staff accordingly.
