India has completed almost 60 days of lockdown and now discussions are rife across the country about the pros and cons of lockdown. Before we think about today's situation, in India, we should first understand our ground reality. India stands out to be one of the most populated countries in the world with over 135 crores of people, next only to China. More over the economic condition and health facilities are no match to those countries who unfortunately now top the charts among Covid-19 hits countries.

In spite of all the shortfalls, our country had been able to check the spread of this epidemic by the taking measures such as social distancing and lockdown well in advance. Global leaders and the media are appreciating our steps taken to control the corona epidemic. It is horrible situation to any country like India where Poverty is cruel than corona. India is ranked 102 of 117 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2019.

Now government is responsible to manage COVID-19 in one hand and solve the problems of migrant labourers and other sections of the people on the other hand. As the citizens of India, we should stand by the measures taken by the government and we should try to do our best in implementing them. It is the time, which calls for patience and discipline. The financial package announced by the central government to benefit the needy people across the country is a good gesture towards empowerment of the poor.

But, a mere announcement of policy will not serve the purpose and the government should also ensure that the benefit reaches the needy people. Maintaining social distance, washing hands regularly, avoiding social gathering and being at Home etc need to be strictly followed until the invention of the vaccine.
