Hyderabad: The Sangareddy district unit of Telangana All-Pensioners and Retired Persons' Association on Monday demanded extension to its members citing Supreme Court ruling on payment of minimum pension of Rs 9,000.

The president of the association, Vaikunta Rao raised the demand while addressing the participants of a dharna by 200 pensioners in front of EPF regional office here in response to the association's State committee.

He wanted the Centre to drop the petition filed by the government and the Regional PF Commissioners to review the Supreme Court ruling. Later, he submitted a representation to Regional PF Commissioner Krishna Shankar, seeking pension based on real wages paid to pensioners and payment of Rs 9,000 as the minimum pension along with DA.

He hit out at sudden stopping of pensions to those from un-exempted organisations, describing it as 'unilateral' and 'dictatorial'. The stopped pension payments should be restored, Rao demanded.

He said at least now the Centre should take steps to solve the problems of the pensioners. Otherwise, Rao warned the Centre of taking up an agitation by the association. Among the association leaders who took part in the dharna were Radhakrishna, Abdul Azeem, Prabhakar, Ranga Rao and pensioners.
