An RTI activist points out deviation in cost claimed by officials and the actual cost

Falaknuma: Irregularities are alleged in funds flow of remodelling and construction of RCC SW drain box under Falaknuma division. Activists who elicited an RTI reply claim that there is deviation in costs claimed by the officials and the actual cost of the project.

A complaint against the AEE (Assistant Executive Engineer) was also filed in the State Vigilance and Enforcement Department in this regard, following an RTI reply received by an activist.

As per the RTI, an amount of Rs 57.2 lakh was sanctioned for the works. The works include dismantling the CC road and remodeling and constructing the RCC slab with SW drain box from Sattar hotel lane in Engine Bowli Crossroads to Bibi-ka-Chashma along Vattepally road under Falaknuma division. The works were sanctioned in the mid of 2018 and were completed by end of 2019.

"The concerned AEE was in favour of contractors. As per rules, the entries in measurement book must be recorded by him, but in this case, they were done by someone else and the amount got released even before works were completed," alleged RTI activist Mohammed Abdul Rahman.

He said that he inspected the works and found that as claimed that there was nothing on the ground which supports the claim by the officials in the measurement book.

"Material used for slabs and walls of drain is of inferior quality. The construction may not withstand floods. Many written complaints were also submitted to the authorities highlighting the issue. But no action has been initiated against the wrong doers. Irony is they are being given works again," he noted.
