More attention to slums development this time says Mirza Mustafa Baig

Highlights

Baig is also keen on education of children and improved healthcare

Riyasathnagar: Corporator-elect of Riyasathnagar Mirza Mustafa Baig has won for the straight fourth time in the recent GHMC elections. He has been a winning candidate from 2002 from the AIMIM party. Active in politics since 1975, he was also party's floor leader and played an important role as a standing committee member in GHMC.

This 60-year-old is a resident of Jamal Colony in Riyasathnagar, which comes under Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency. Serving almost for two decades, Baig noted that the division does not have major issues, except in some neighbourhoods which are considered slums.

"The division has seen a great facelift since 2002 and that is the reason people have given me another term. I shall be serving them for consecutively fourth time," he said. When asked about action plan, he said, "In my previous term I completed proper roads, sewerage system, and many major civic works. Even slums have been developed with good roads, while some others are waiting for funds.

Two Basti Dawakhanas are now operating in slums. There are seven government schools in the division," Baig added. According to him, in the previous term, works of around Rs 104 crore including new roads, CRMP, PPM, central drainage system, change of water pipelines, construction of a reservoir, major road widening, 33/11kv sub-station and underground cable with sanctioned amount of Rs 15 crore were undertaken. "A few years back there was a major problem in water supply in the division.

In the previous term I proposed a reservoir which materialised. Now there is no problem for residents," he recalled. Baig is keen on education of children and improvement of healthcare facilities. "There were only two primary schools in the division. In the last two terms five more institutions, including two high schools and three primary ones came up."

In this term, he will be focusing more on development of slums. Major works are going on, including construction of a flyover and road-widening. "For public healthcare, there is a UPHC located in Rakshapuram.

I want to develop it as a major government hospital by including a maternity unit, as in surrounding areas there is no government hospital or a maternity centre," he noted.

"In the last term, more than 1,700 cheques of Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi were distributed. For vendors 458 loans were disbursed with his support. More applications for loans will be cleared in near future," Baig exudes confidence.
