Hyderabad: Sartaj, Rana to shine at Sadar festivities

Narayanguda: The 'Sadar', the festival also known as carnival of buffaloes, is celebrated after Diwali by Yadav community. Under the banner of Sadar Utsav Mela, it started on Sunday in different localities and would conclude on Monday night at YMCA, Narayanaguda, on a grand note.
On this occasion, several buffaloes from best breeds will be decorated with garlands, painted horns, ornaments and walked throughout the streets. They are also accompanied by their owners, group of people who are seen dancing to the beats and later, the bulls also demonstrate the stunts. This is mostly celebrated in areas like Narayanguda, Kachiguda, Musheerabad, Malakgiri, Saidabad amongst the Yadav community.
Buffaloes from across the country will be presented in the festival. However, the breeds mostly from Haryana and Punjab are preferred. This year, a major attraction is a Murrah bull named 'Sartaj' which is 7 feet tall, 16 feet length and weighs more than 1,600 kilos. Another attraction is 'Rana,' who weighs around 1,700 kg. It stands tall at around 6.5 feet, measures 13 feet from tip of head to toe and participated in the Sadar festival at Khairatabad on Sunday.
Haribabu Yadav, one of the organisers of the festival, said that Sadar is being celebrated across Hyderabad for more than 100 years. "To attract people, we have started bringing super bulls to Hyderabad from various places. This time we brought 'Sartaj' from Veer Singh of Haryana State. Sartaj is 25 times national champion in different compactions held across India and other buffaloes," he said.
Traffic Diversions
In view of the Sadar Utsav Mela, which will be celebrated at YMCA, Narayanaguda, on Monday from 7 pm to 3 am, the movement of vehicular traffic will diverted by traffic police.
