Taking advantage of elections in the last four-five months, builders increased their pace of indiscriminate constructions. They are taking up big buildings in place of tin sheds in this colony. One can see hundreds of huge buildings virtually everywhere – most of them without GHMC permission. The Town Planning department officials concerned are preferring to look the other way, thus causing a huge loss to the civic body.
The attitude of the officials is giving rise to doubts, as there has been a ban on constructions in Gokul Plots Colony following a dispute in the court pending for years. Builders who seem to be indifferent to the court order are taking up huge buildings illegally and making a fast buck, allegedly with active collusion of GHMC officials for monetary considerations. Such trend has been prevailing in the colony for several months.
When any complaints are made, the officials are allegedly taking only notional action of some demolitions. Local residents told The Hans India that these officials are later allowing such constructions to continue. They accused the lower level Town Planning staff of colluding with builders and helping them to go ahead with huge structures. Some higher officials are said to be hand in glove with such staffers.
The residents point out that whereas there was only scattered building activity in the past, recently it mushroomed with huge structures coming up. They alleged that a GHMC officer "is fully aware of the illegal constructions, but he is preferring to be indifferent," wondering what the motive could be.
