Promise of CCTV cameras at school not a reality yet
Last year some cases of eve-teasing were reported in the school. Following which the Madannapet police station’s She Team comprising two constables were stationed near the school premises to check any kind of mischief.

Santosh Nagar: It has been a year since the authorities promised to install CCTV cameras and provide security to the girl students at a government school in Madannapet following cases of eve-teasing. With no upgradation of the security measures at the school, the situation of one of the oldest schools located at market place remains unchanged.
With around 300 students studying in the 50-year-old government school located in Madannapet mandi in Santosh Nagar, the market remains buzzing with activity. However, CCTV cameras are yet to be seen outside or inside the school, which comes within 1 km radius of the local police station.
Last year some cases of eve-teasing were reported in the school. Following which the Madannapet police station's She Team comprising two constables were stationed near the school premises to check any kind of mischief. Kurmaguda Corporator, Sameena Begum, who visited the spot along with the police, reviewed various aspects of security arrangements, particularly for girl students.
They found that the boys and girls do not have separate washrooms. The visiting authorities found lack of CCTV cameras and promised to install them within days and placing of two policemen. But the security arrangements are yet to upgraded, even as one year has passed.
Girls use school's washroom, boys go outside
With the intention of not to cause inconvenience to the girl students, the school teachers made alternate arrangements by asking the boys to use toilets of a nearby mosque.
"In this coeducation school there are around three washrooms which is being used by only girl students and boys avail washroom of a nearby Masjid, so as to avoid any problems, an agreement was reached out between all students for using washrooms", said a class 9 student on condition of anonymity.
School remains shut during monsoon
Different issues, including the dilapidated condition of the structure cries for attention. It remains a norm that during monsoon, owing to risk of water seepage inside the classes under asbestos sheets the school remains shut down.
The school running in a rented structure also craves for infrastructure related problems, as walls are slowly peeling-off. Besides this, the school does have clean washrooms, no doors no light or ceiling fans. With no cleanliness being maintained, the asbestos roofing is filled with dried up leaves and the biggest problem remains lack of security arrangements.
