Dabeerpura: The recent construction works of the CC road taken up at Motinala Lane in Dabeerpura proved to be slapdash, as residents started complaining within a month about the poor condition of the newly-laid road, alleging that at some places, the road poses risk for commuters and pedestrians.

The works of CC road were started in the last week of April near Moti nala lane and the road was completed in haste before Ramzan and now after a month the road is seen spiky due to the concrete material protruding and some places the cement without proper concrete mix is spreads over the road, which has become slippery. "Due to the cement and concrete spread breaching the mark on the surface many minor accidents were reported in recent days," said Mohammed Mahmood, a resident.

According to an RTI, an amount of Rs 4 lakh was sanctioned for the works of 6-inch CC road. The works included road cutting and relaying works near Motinala in Dabeerpura division, but the road was laid with only 2-inch of concrete and unscientifically relayed without 'road cutting' by the contractor. Hardly a month has gone and road's material like cement and concrete stones were spread out of its place making it uneven and at places rough, said Abdul Rahman, RTI activist.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, Abdul Rahman said that he inspected the road and found that only a 2-inch in height was laid instead of 6-inch, without cutting the road. The relaying of road was done without removing the existing section and without proper grinding. As a result, the road's height has increased but without quality. In the recent rains the rainwater was seen logged all over, he added.

He also said that the now, the road is seen to be damaged, due to the improper mixing of concrete and other materials. Moreover after completion, none of the GHMC workers were seen sprinkling water, as it is the general practice for CC roads. Due to the cement and concrete spread out on the surface, the road has become rough and many accidents took place, he explained.

Abdul Rahman also said that many written complaints were also submitted to the authorities highlighting the shoddy work of the contractor, but no action was initiated against anyone.

"This Moti nala area is inundated in water each year in rainy season more than 5 feet of water is logged on road and houses. Now, this CC road is laid already existing BT road without removing or bringing in uniformity.

The height of the road is increased and the rainwater may enter in houses and shops very easily. When the project was at its initial stages we also given complaint to the division AE and no action has been taken and when it has completed now, it is giving more trouble to residents than relief," said Mohammed Mazhar, another resident.

Why GHMC always neglected the developments in the old city. Firstly there was no sanction of works and if the works were sanctioned, no proper works were undertaken in the old city, he lamented.
