Hyderabad: GHMC says many institutions, welfare groups and NGOs are coming forward to work closely along with the GHMC as part of the 'Saaf Hyderabad-Shandar Hyderabad' programme for hygiene in the city.

On Thursday, Deputy Commissioners of 30 circles met with various colony welfare associations to discuss arrangements for the Water Harvesting Day on May 18 and also keep their surroundings clean by disposing of wet and dry garbage separately to the Swachh Autos.

A total of 68 tonnes of plastic waste was collected on Thursday as part of a plastic waste collection in all circles. Journalists also joined hands and volunteered in the programme at Sai Ramnagar in Lingojiguda of LB Nagar circle.

Almost 40 journalists including LB Nagar MLA Sudhir Reddy, Lingojiguda Corporator Srinivasa Rao, LB Nagar Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Reddy, Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Krishna and GHMC CPRO Venkataramana took part.

MLA Sudhir Reddy said that he would take part in the Water Harvesting Day programme and urged the public to join the novel initiative of GHMC. Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Reddy said that about 800 water harvest pits were being repaired in the LB Nagar zone.
