Liquor sales have been hit to the roof making a generating a revenue of Rs 194 crore on December 31. The officials of Prohibition and Excise Department said that the wine shop owners as stocked up the liquor from the depots of Telangana State Beverages Corporation Limited.

The officials said that all the shops across the state recorded brisk sales from the evening on the New Year eve. "Usually, the state registers Rs 70 crore liquor sales every day while on December 31, the sales went up to Rs 194 crore i.e, nearly three times of the revenue on regular days," the officials added.

On the New Year eve, all the wine shops were remained open till midnight while the bars and pubs were opened until 1 am which resulted in the massive sale of liquor, according to the wine shop owners.

They said that their shops would have witnessed more sales if there is no coronavirus. "The sales were carried out adhering to the safety protocols which decreased the sales," they said.
