Tirupati: Student Federation of India (SFI) Tirupati committee members staged a protest here on Saturday against corporate colleges collecting excess fees. The SFI leaders staged the protest for more than an hour at Nalugu Kalla Mandapam displaying placards and raising slogans. Addressing the students, SFI vice-presidents Nagaraju and Prasanna said across the district, several private college managements were exploiting the parents by collecting exorbitant fees. They alleged that private college managements have been collecting higher fees by violating the education department rules and regulations. The leaders criticised the private college managements for collecting fees in lakhs against the government prescribed fee of Rs 3,000.

In view of the corona pandemic, the government exempted 30 per cent of fees during the present academic year but the college managements are collecting total fees from the students, they alleged.

Further, they demanded the government should display the fee particulars in every college notice board in view of students' interest and to collect the officially prescribed fees from the students. In this regard, they submitted a memorandum to regional intermediate board officer. In the stir, SFI leaders Sharath, Sanni, Karthi, Mohan, Vijay and others took part.
