Vijayawada: Man gets life imprisonment in rape case

Vijayawada: A man was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday for committing heinous crime of raping his minor daughter. The Vijayawada POCSO Court special judge Dr S Rajani awarded the punishment (imprisonment till death) to the culprit.

According to Kanti Rana Tata, the commissioner of police, a 35-year-old convict Kathari Nagaraju, a resident of YSR colony in Gangireddula Dibba under the Machavaram police station limits committed the heinous crime by sexually assaulting the daughter many times. The minor girl informed her mother about the crime of her father.

The woman lodged a complaint with Machavaram police on January 13, 2023. The POCSO special court on Tuesday delivered a judgment awarding life imprisonment and penalty of Rs 50,000. Cases were booked under section 376 (A, B), 376 (3) IPC, section 6 of POCSO Act. The case was investigated by Disha ACP VV Naidu. The commissioner of police Kanti Rana Tata instructed the Disha police to investigate the case swiftly to ensure punishment to the culprit as early as possible. The court ordered the culprit to pay compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim. The prosecution collected evidence from 16 witnesses. Commissioner of police Rana said the investigation was done under a Conviction based trail monitoring system and congratulated the investigation officers for speedy investigation of the case, filing the charge sheet and proving the crime.
