Construction of roads, culverts, side drains, completion of UGD works are top priority
Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation accorded top priority for development of infrastructure facilities in the city in 2020 giving emphasis for laying new roads, construction of side drains, underground drainage (UGD) work, renovation of the municipal parks and renovation of two stadiums and other development works.
The State government was also rendering financial assistance for the development of the city. The VMC spent Rs 19.96 crore laying roads in three circles of the city. New road works completed to the extent of 15.55 kms in circle one, 2.80 kms works completed in circle two and 7.7 kms road works in circle three limits. The Civic body was also giving top priority for completion of the UGD works and construction of new drains.
VMC commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh said the VMC is renovating nine municipal parks at a cost of Rs 3 crore and been planning to spend Rs 10 crore for development of park in Ajit Singh Nagar. New park in Ajit Singh Nagar will be the biggest park in the city and nearly 30 percent works have been completed in 44 acres land. The VMC successfully conducted bio mining and lifted the garbage from the dumping yard. Residents of Ajit Singh Nagar, Vambay colony and other areas got rid of dumping yard menace with bio mining activity. The 44 acres land will be used for construction of new park.
The VMC is also developing Rajiv Gandhi park, BR Ambedkar Park, KL Rao Park and other parks in the city. In order to keep the city clean and green, the VMC has procured 38 new vehicles at a cost of Rs 6.60 crore. The vehicles include road weeper machines, sprinklers machines, drain cleaning machines, bobcat vehicles and long boom excavator vehicles.
The VMC renovated Chennupati Ramakotaiah Indoor stadium with Rs 9 crore and Dandamudi Rajagopala Rao indoor stadium with Rs 2 crore. Besides, works were taken up to restore three swimming pools in the city. The VMC has installed HT line to inner ring Road at a cost of Rs 1.22 crore. Storm water drain works are continuing at brisk pace after Covid lockdown and 5.8 kms works completed at a cost of Rs 5.40 crore in two circles.
