Speaking at the distribution of house site pattas programme held at Tagarapuvalasa here on Thursday, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government was implementing various welfare schemes for the needy people as part of Navaratnalu.

Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy described that owning a house was a symbol of self-respect for the poor. He said the Chief Minister has initiated good governance and introduced many schemes such as Amma Vodi, Vidya Deevena, YSR Asara, YSR Cheyutha and zero interest schemes that suit the weaker sections. He opined that 50 per cent reservation should be made in all posts for women empowerment. Speaking on the occasion, Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said 17,000 Jagananna colonies were set up in the state. In Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, about 82,000 houses were sanctioned. The minister said the government will take severe action against those involved in corruption and land grabbing. Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy and GVMC Commissioner G Srijana participated in the programme.
