National Unity Day was observed in Vijayawada on Tuesday to mark the Birth anniversary of the former deputy prime minister Sardar Vallabhi Patel.

Unity run was organised on MG Road from Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium to Sub-collector’s office to mark the occasion. Health minister Dr Kamineni Srinivas, district collector B Lakshikantham flagged of the run and actively participated in it.

Several hundred students, NSS volunteers, staff of various Government department and police joyfully participated in the Unity run and took a pledge for the unity of the country. Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner of police D Gowtam Sawang said that National Unity Day is observed to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. He said India is a great country with unity and diversity.

He also added that the land is bestowed with the people of many religions, culture, languages and rich traditions. Municipal commissioner J Nivas and Vijayawada brand ambassador and chess player Koneru Hampi participated in the Unity Day observed at VMC high school in Patamata lanka on Tuesday. The students and teaches took pledge for the unity of the country.
