Vijayawada: Lawyers under the joint aegis of YSRCP Legal Cell and the Bezwada Bar Association organised a dharna in protest against inordinate delay in construction of the city civil court complex and demanded immediate construction of High Court building at Amaravati on Thursday. The members of the two bodies raised slogans against the government over the issues.

Speaking on the occasion, the YSRCP city unit president, Vellampalli Srinivas criticised the TDP government that the construction work of the Capital Amaravati and Vijayawada Civil Court were progressing at a snail’s pace. He said that the government was mesmerising the people of AP by showing graphics. He demanded that the government immediately complete the civil court construction work without further delay.

Former MLA and YSRCP working president Malladi Vishnu accused the government of acting hand in glove with the contractor resulting in delay in construction of civil court. Now, the government was planning for calling tenders again to complete the construction work. He alleged that the government was playing a spectator’s role and making hundreds of lawyers to run from court to court daily in the city. Construction of the CM Camp Office and irrigation minister office were completed on a war-footing and why not the court building, he questioned.

YSRCP Legal Cell president Tallapragada Subba Rao said because of the delay in construction of civil court complex, the lawyers had been finding it difficult to reach courts on time as they were located at different places.
