Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Bhavaraju Padmavathi has said that the government has constituted the committees across the district under section 27 (1) and (2) of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of) Children Act-2015 and Central Act-2016. 

Rajamahendravaram: Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Bhavaraju Padmavathi has said that the government has constituted the committees across the district under section 27 (1) and (2) of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of) Children Act-2015 and Central Act-2016.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, she said the committees continue for a period of three years and the main aim of the committees was to protect the children and help them join their family. The committee takes cares of missing children, orphans and children deserted by their parents.

The committee can also register suo motu cases and issue summons to the respective parties. The CWC was empowered to go for field inspection if necessary. “CWC can also conduct counselling to the parents as well as to the children. The five member committee is called as bench of magistrates and its decision is final.

Though the committee called as bench of magistrates they wear usual dress. The committee would also take the help of non-governmental organisations depending on necessity. The CWC office works from the premises of Kandukuri State Home and anyone can call the committee over the phone numbers--0883--2431100 and 87902 08303 to give information about the hapless children,” Padmavati informed.

Labour department, Juvenile department, Childline wing, police etc also produce the children before the committee on which it takes a final decision on the children after conducting enquiry, she added.Committee members K Lakshmi Tayaru, T Padmaja, T Adi Lakshmi and K Dharma Rao were present.
