A 20-year-old youth, D Sainath, attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze on Wednesday, reportedly for Telangana cause. Neighbours who noticed him burning doused the fire and took him to hospital. Sainath received 80 percent burns and his condition is reported to be critical.
According to Nacharam Inspector Ashok Kumar, the youth set himself ablaze as he was dejected by the delay in carving out separate Telangana. Sainath, the police said, came out of his house shouting "Jai Telangana." By that time he was already engulfed by fire. On seeing this, his neighbours rushed to his help and doused the flames. They then called 108 ambulance for emergency treatment and he was taken to Gandhi Medical Hospital. Sainath stays in a rented house at Old Meerpet in Mallapur area near Nacharam.
As per the suicide note, both the Congress and the BJP claim that only they would get separate Telangana or else it is they who would sacrifice their lives but all that remains only as lip service. It is the students who are dying for the cause and yet neither of the two national parties had done anything to put an end to the suicides by students. He hoped that his would be the last suicide for the cause of Telangana. Sainath is said to have been playing an active role in all the T agitations. He passed tenth class and is unemployed.
