A two-member central committee-Sri Ram Varma and Dr Chandrasekhar-arrived in the district headquarters on Monday, to take stock of damage to crops. Incessant rains lashed the district from October 22 to 26. They visited Kurumarthi village of Kattamguru mandal, to assess the loss.
The team also inspected cotton crops that were inundated at Cheruvuguttu in Narcotpalli mandal and the impact of the flood waters on the highway. Later, they participated in a presentation made by the Chiranjeevulu, district collector at the Collectorate.
In his presentation, the collector mentioned that due to untimely rains, crops worth Rs 1,502.96 crore were damaged. He added that cotton crops in 1,72,856 hectares and paddy in 1,90,533 hectares were washed away.
Nalgonda MP, Gutta Sukhender Reddy and leaders of BJP and CPM submitted memoranda to the central team.
Later, speaking to the media, the members of the central team said that they would undertake a tour on Tuesday to the flood-hit areas in the district and submit their report to the Centre.
