Hyderabad: While the Union Ministers from Telangana region put up a united argument before the GoM in New Delhi on Monday, the Seemandhra Congress leaders continued to remain a divided house.

The T leaders gave a single report, saying that they would not compromise on the status of Hyderabad and would not agree to transfer of Bhadrachalam to Andhra state, and demanded clear assurance on the measures the Centre would take to help the new state meet the power shortage and other issues. In contrast, three out of nine Seemandhra Union Ministers gave separate reports to the GoM.

The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Kishore Chandra Deo in his report opposed the proposal to keep Hyderabad as the joint capital. He said that the Centre should name the new capital city immediately. Deo wanted that the new capital should be located at Visakhapatnam. He said the State government had acquired 29,000 acres in 1979-80 for setting the Vizag steel plant. Nine thousand acres were lying unutilized and this could be taken over, and the new government can start functioning from there. Similarly, another 9,000 acres were available in the SEZ zone which can also be taken over to construct administrative buildings.

In the interim period, the government can hire two huge buildings from where it can start its functioning. Deo further said that enough land was available in 12 satellite townships in and around Visakhapatnam, which can house the new government offices and other administrative buildings like the State Assembly etc.

The Minister said that Rayalaseema people were not willing to remain with the residuary state and hence they should be merged with Telangana or otherwise the four districts of Rayalaseema should be declared as separate state. He further demanded that the income generated from Greater Hyderabad should be shared with the residuary state for a period of 25 years.

The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Panabaka Lakshmi, in her five page report wanted the capital to be located in Vijayawada. She said that 50 km area in and around Vijayawada would suffice to build the new capital city. She further demanded setting up of oil refinery in the VANPIC area of Prakasam district and an LPG bottling plant in Nellore. Another Minister Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy also submitted a report, explaining the problems Rayalaseema would face post bifurcation of the state.
