Hyderabad: Former IPS officer and social activist Kiran Bedi on Thursday lamented that accountability had been on the wane in all spheres of society.
Speaking after receiving the Sankalp Sanjeevini Award from Suchirindia here, she said, “We hardly find people who are accountable in their fields. This is a disturbing trend. For a nation to progress, there shall be accountability and commitment to work.”
Kiran Bedi exhorted people to work with sincerity and honesty to achieve something in life and also contribute to the society. “If parents, teachers, police, media persons, politicians and people of all walks of life work sincerely, we can bring about a change in society. Work hard for justice and righteousness,” she advised.
Stressing the need to work with a sense of social responsibility, the winner of Ramon Magsaysay Award, said “the more you give, the more you would get.” Elaborating further, she said: “God created everyone with a specific objective.
We need to fulfill it. Everyone in this world was equal. If you have nothing and have only good words, then spread happiness”, In a unique gesture, Kiran Bedi shared her happiness by inviting mentally challenged children onto the dais, and felicitated them.
“Today, I am extremely happy. It’s really a sweet memory to take my award in the midst of these children. My sister, who was a social activist and helping the mentally disabled children through her Vision India Foundation, died of cancer two years ago and I have been running that NGO in her memory.
I believe in the theory of Karma. I only urge you to find good, do good and spread goodness” the Iron Lady said. The good deeds of our earlier life would have a bearing on our present life, so try to do as much good to the society and mankind as possible, she added.
Suchirindia gave a cheque of Rs 75, 000 for the Vision India Foundation on the occasion. Y Kiran, CEO of Suchirindia said it has been his habit to celebrate his birthday in the service of underprivileged children.
