Presses for T with 10 districts; no change in Hyd status

Andhras should move out of Hyd at the earliest

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha on Friday called on AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Digvijay Singh to insist on having Telangana with 10 districts and Hyderabad as the capital. This assumes significance in the backdrop of the talk of Rayala-Telangana proposal.
Emerging from the meeting, Damodar Rajanarasimha acknowledged that Rayala-Telangana is under discussion. He is understood to have impressed upon Digvijay Singh that the party should go by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) Resolution of July 30 and the Union Cabinet decision of October 3, which was for Telangana with 10 districts and Hyderabad as Capital. Rayala-Telangana would unnecessarily create confusion.
The Deputy Chief Minister is also understood to have strongly argued for increasing the number of seats in the Telangana Assembly to 153 from the existing 119 seats. This would not only contribute to political stability and give greater representation, besides helping Telangana to retain the Legislative Council. This is not something unusual or unprecedented. It was done in Uttarakhand and Haryana and the same could be followed even in Telangana.
Rajanarasimha conveyed opposition to Hyderabad being taken away from Telangana in any manner. He demanded that Hyderabad should be placed totally under the control of Telangana Government. It was made clear to the Congress leadership that the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh should treat Hyderabad as only a working capital for them and that they should make arrangements for their own capital and move out at the earliest.
Otherwise, it would be like the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister working from Bengaluru.
