On Monday, he launched a broadside against Ganta, saying that the latter’s entry would not in any way help the party. He described Ganta as having an `Iron Leg’— meaning whichever party takes him into its fold always suffers.
Patrudu elaborated that when Ganta was in TDP as an MLA, the party lost power. When he won on the ticket of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), PRP lost its identity and merged with Congress. And now, the Congress party was set to suffer a major debacle across State, thanks to the presence of Ganta. Patrudu alleged that Ganta was “stinking rich and is making attempts to encroach the land of the Collectorate; he even suggested the Collector’s office be shifted to another place.
However, Patrudu said he would abide by the party decision on taking back Ganta into the party. Ganta and Patrudu were at loggerheads over a decade ago when the former was establishing himself as a leader. Ganta won the Anakapalle Lok Sabha seat which was vacated by Patrudu who opted to contest from Chodavaram constituency in 2004.
However, though Ganta won, the TDP lost miserably. After that, he joined the PRP, but with no success. When PRP was on the verge of disintegration, Ganta was invited by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to join the TDP back. However, with TDP’s chances in the State not looking any good, he stayed on in PRP and even played a role in its merger with the Congress. This paved way for his induction to the State Cabinet.
A dynamic leader, Ganta has become a strong leader in Congress, which is causing heartburn even to senior leaders like Tribal Welfare Minister Pasupuleti Balaraju who has been spitting fire at him. As the TDP is likely to fare better than the Congress in the next polls, due to the latter’s decision to birfurcate the State, seniors like Patrudu and others in TDP want to reap the fruits themselves and are against letting those who deserted the party to partake of them.
