Hyderabad: Governor of Uttarakhand Dr Aziz Qureshi, has called upon all the countrymen to recall how Sufism tied together the nation for centuries. He held that even in contemporary times, this could be the only answer for religious fundamentalism of all kinds.
In his inaugural address at ‘Taskera-e-Khusrau’, organised by All India Markazi Majlis-e-Chistia in collaboration with National Foundation for Communal Harmony and AP Tourism on Saturday at Jubilee Hall, he emphasised the need for saving ‘pride of Tri-Colour’ from falling prey to communal elements.
“If some fundamentalists claim that they are the only righteous people on this land, then I must say they are living in the fools-paradise”, said the Governor.
He recalled how Khusrau, the Sufi musician, singer and great scholar of his times, loved India and Indian languages, particularly Sanskrit more than the Persian. “He always acknowledged that Sanskrit was better than the official language of the time, the Persian”, noted Aziz Qureshi.
The Consul General Iran, Hassan Nourian quoted Jawahar Lal Nehru from his book ‘Discovery of India’ about the influence Iran had on India’s life and culture.
“This opinion regarding the influence of Iranian civilization on India is honest and prestigious. We can say Amir Khusrau Dehlavi is one of the best examples for our cultural relation between two countries”, he said.
He said that thousands of unique Persian manuscripts in the Indian libraries through 700 years of official language status reflect the shared values of both countries.
Those who spoke on the occasion included Murat Omeroglu, Consul General, Turkey, Wajahat Habibullah, Chairman National Minorities Commission, Abid Rasool Khan, AP State Minorities Commission and Khaja Shahid, Vice Chancellor, MANUU.
