Education becomes the ultimate weapon to fight all social evils. There is a need to have sufficient number of seats at university level for all those willing to accomplish higher studies. Though many private and deemed universities are mushrooming in the nooks and corners of India, these universities may not be the choice of wise but poor category of people. There is a need for the local governments to come forward and address this critical issue.
Visionary rulers of Andhra Pradesh have laid the foundation for the universities in each district of Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh leads in India with as many as 16 districts having a university for its people. Only 7 more districts needs establishment of universities.
As many as 5 districts of Andhra Pradesh: 2 districts each from Andhra and Telangana, one district from Rayalaseema region will be shortly getting universities, as part of the state government’s go-getting plan, according to the sources. By this, Andhra Pradesh will turn to be the first state to have at least one university in each district. An estimated amount of Rs.55 crore has reportedly been allotted for the same.
According to the sources, the new universities will be established at Sangareddy (Medak district), Vijayanagaram (Vijayanagaram), Tadepalligudem (West Godavari), Ongole (Prakasam), Khammam (Khammam), Nirmal (Adilabad) and Hyderabad district.
It is worth mentioning here that of those many good promises made by the late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhar Reddy, setting up of at least one university for each district was one.
