S Seemandhra MLAs to meet on Monday
Hyderabad: Following the moves of the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to strip D Sridhar Babu of the portfolio of Legislative Affairs and amidst the talk that each clause of the Draft T Bill would be put to vote, legislators from Telangana, cutting across party lines, met here on Friday and formed a coordination committee to thwart the designs of Seemandhra leaders. Sridhar Babu was made the committee convenor.
Sridhar Babu would ensure floor coordination among all the members from Telangana to counter the moves of Seemandhra legislators. The meeting also decided to write a letter to the President Pranab Mukherjee, and if necessary meet him personally if the ruckus in the Assembly continued.
Apart from urging the President not to extend the time given for discussion of the Draft Bill, they would also highlight the objections to some contentious clauses in the Bill such as vesting administrative powers on law and order in Hyderabad in the Governor.
On the other hand, the Seemandhra MLAs decided to meet on Monday and form a coordination committee.
According to Minister K Jana Reddy, the Telangana Legislators decided not to criticise each another on the floor of the House till the T Bill was returned to the President after January 23. He said the meeting condemned the divestment of portfolio of Sridhar Babu by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Jana Reddy told all the MLAs from Telangana to attend the Assembly session without fail and cooperate with the efforts of the Speaker to ensure a smooth debate on the T-Bill so that the process can be completed by January 23.
He said that, if necessary, the T MLAs would take very little time to speak on the Bill and give maximum time to the Seemandhra MLAs so that they could express their views on the contents of the Bill.
Dayakar Rao said that instead of long speeches the T MLAs would give their opinion in writing to the Speaker and would also write the President citing their views on the contents of the Bill. Rao also said that TDP was in favour of separate state and Naidu was maintaining neutral stand since he has to protect the party in all the regions. “Don’t go by what others comment, TDP is for Telangana,” he added.
Apart from Jana Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister C Damodara Rajanarsimha and D Sridhar Babu, several other ministers from Telangana took part in the meeting.
TRSLP leader E Rajender, TDP MLA E Dayakar Rao and BJP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy took serious exception to the manner in which Sridhar Babu was shunted out of the legislative affairs portfolio. They said, "It is an undemocratic act and immoral to shift him from Legislative Affairs and replace him with S Sailajanath, a Minister from Seemandhra region.
Chief Minister's action only showed the high-handed behaviour of Seemandhra rulers towards the Telangana politicos and people. We deplore this act of Kiran Reddy.”
