New Delhi: The Congress is adopting a cautious approach about the defiant attitude of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is reportedly mulling a fast to protest against the passage in Parliament of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill 2013 to create Telangana. AICC Spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said he is not aware of Reddy’s plans to stage a dharna against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. However, he said the atmosphere in Andhra Pradesh is surcharged, where tempers are running high. The party will seek to iron out the differences between the leaders of both the regions and to sort out the issues involved in it in an amicable manner.

Surjewala insisted that the Congress is committed to the creation of Telangana and there is no change in that position. It was a decision taken both by the highest policy-making body of the party, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on July 30, 2013, as also by the Union Cabinet on October 3, 2013. As such, the decision was irreversible. The Congress and the Government, he assured, would pay utmost attention to addressing any of the genuine concerns of the people of Seemandhra region, even while implementing the decision on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
