Hyderabad: Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles Satyanarayana said that the problems faced by Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Ltd (APCO) till recently were solved and it was time to concentrate on the development of the Society.

Releasing APCO 2014-Calendar on Monday, Satyaranarayana stated that the institution overcame the financial problems after the government had taken some initiatives. APCO chairman M Hanumantha Rao was also present.

He said that handlooms and textile department would look after the issues related to the welfare of the weavers and APCO should focus on developmental activities.

Referring to the filling up of vacancies in APCO, the Commissioner stated that the government would take a decision on it soon. The policies of the State and Central governments were in favour of handloom fabrics and it was time for the weavers’ societies to utilise the opportunities, he said.

APCO chairman M Hanumantha Rao said that the institution should change its business principles according to the present market trends. The APCO had succeeded in bringing the government order directing all the departments to buy their fabrics requirement through the society, he added.

APCO Managing Director Gurram Gouri Sankar said, “The APCO is moving forward to achieve Rs 500 crore business. The business has touched Rs 272 crore so far and there is a possibility of reaching the target of Rs 500 crore before the closing of the financial year.”
