Hanuman Junction (Krishna): Samaikyandhra supporters on Friday hurled broomsticks at the vehicle of Union Minister J D Seelam on the national highway when his convoy was headed to Eluru to attend an official function. Despite vociferous demands by the protestors, the Ministers refused to join them, which angered them.

The incident happened after the minister got down from a train in Vijayawada and was on the way to Eluru by road. Police, deployed in large numbers, had blocked the agitators. This angered the activists, forcing them to resort to hurling of broomsticks at the vehicle. Chalasani Anjaneyulu, district Samaikyandhra JAC, and others took part in the demonstration.

Meanwhile, NGOs and advocates tried to obstruct Seelam in Rajahmundry, when he came to inaugurate the Customs & Central Excise office. Led by Seemandhra Advocates JAC co-convener Muppalla Subbarao and NGOs Association’s Johnson, they staged dharna at Morampudi Road. Tension prevailed when police tried to evacuate them. In anticipation of a scuffle, police diverted the minister’s convoy; but the protestors came to know the plan and tried to obstruct the minister on the national highway. Police foiled their plan.
